2019 Annual Forest Road Spelling Bee was held!
First place winners from each class in Grades 4 - 6 competed in the school-wide Spelling Bee Final.
Michael P (Gr. 6) was the Spelling Bee champion and Ameena R (Gr. 4) came in second place!

2019-2020 NYS Kids Safe Online Poster Contest
The goal of the contest is to engage young people in thinking about cyber security through the creation of posters that will encourage their peers to use the Internet safely and securely.
The sponsors of the contest believe that young people know best how their friends and classmates are using the Internet and can craft the messages and the images that will resonate with their 
peers and help them stay safe online.
The contest is designed to be fun and educational. Enter the New York State contest to become eligible for the national contest! Winners will be awarded in New York in early 2020. Winners will be submitted to the national contest for category (K-2, 3-5, 6-8, 9 -12, and special education).
Format
- Original hand drawn or electronically created submissions will be accepted.
- Posters are to be created individually with a limit of one entry per student.
- Electronic submissions should not use clip art or premade images.
- Text should be dark and large enough to read.
- A variety of media may be used, such as watercolor, pen and ink, crayon and markers. Brighter colors reproduce better. Light pencil marks will not show up.

Content
- DO NOT send any artwork that contains trademarked images or brands such as clipart, Disney Characters, Dell, Google, Twitter, and Facebook. For additional information on copyright visit: http://www.copyrightkids.org/
- Do not put any personal identifying information on the front of the poster.
- Teachers, support staff, and parents may offer minimum technical support but cannot aid in the creative process. No professional (paid) assistance is allowed.

Lights On for Education - Literature Based STEAM Projects
Lights On for Education was held at Memorial Junior High School. Forest Road School library displayed various literature based STEAM projects and invited everybody to participate.

6th grade volunteers were manning the booths: STEAM Cup Challenge, Book-Inspired Building Activities, and Fairytale Problem Solving STEM challenge. Way to go~

After listening to The Very Hungry Caterpillar and The Very Busy Spider by Eric Carle and Planting a Rainbow by Lois Ehlert, students in Miss Cappy's class and Mrs. Freisem's class made caterpillars, spiders, and beautiful flower bouquets during library class.

Ms. Smithok's kindergarten students were reading aloud their favorite books such as "One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish," "Chicka Chicka 1 2 3," and "The Green Eggs and Ham" to their classmates during library class.
